Two of Sunderland’s landmark buildings both have issues with leaking roofs.
Public access to the walk-on glass ceiling at the National Glass Centre has been restricted for months.
Experts have been called in to fix problem.
During the temporary closure of the National Glass Centre roof for necessary maintenance and repair work, a full structural survey commissioned by the University revealed that more substantial repairs are required.
Therefore, the roof will remain closed until a longer term solution for the refurbishment of the roof can be implemented.
Meanwhile at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre, an issue with leaks there, could see parts of the site closed for months.
Here’s a statement from Sunderland City Council:
Balfour Beatty will be carrying out a programme of works on the roof at Sunderland Aquatic Centre on behalf of Sunderland City Council.
Further details and dates will follow in due course.
