Sunderland AFC are delighted to announce the loan signing of Bailey Wright.
The Australian defender has joined the Lads until the end of the 2019-20 season, arriving from Championship outfit Bristol City.
Wright has a wealth of experience within English football, spending seven years at Preston North End before moving to Ashton Gate in 2017.
The 27-year-old, who earned promotion from League One during his time at Deepdale, has clocked up over 100 Championship appearances while also becoming the Robins’ club captain.
Capped 24 times by Australia, Wright was part of the Socceroos’ 23-man squads for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2017 Confederations Cup.
Speaking about his arrival, SAFC manager Phil Parkinson said: “We are delighted to welcome Bailey to the club. He is an experienced player and he has captained Bristol City. We are looking forward to working with him.
“He adds competition at the back, which is something I felt we needed, and he is an excellent character. He will be a valuable addition to the group.”
After completing his move, Wright added: “I’m delighted to be here and I’m looking forward to getting to work.
“I’ve played League One football before and I’ve been promoted, so I understand the qualities required to succeed at this level. I’ve had a few chats with the manager, and I want to be a part of what he’s building.”
