A police investigation is underway after an alleged attack on a football team coach.
It’s said that a gang of masked men, some armed with golf clubs, attacked the member of staff before non-league match yesterday.
About 20 to 25 people were involved in the incident ahead of Seaham Red Star’s home game against Sunderland RCA in the Northern League Division One.
The attackers are thought to have arrived at Seaham Town Park in vans and drove away following the assault.
The victim was taken to hospital, where he has since been released.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said:
“We are investigating an alleged assault which took place at the ground of Seaham Red Star FC, in Seaton Lane, Seaham, shortly after 7pm on Tuesday, August 28.
“Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting reference number 383 of August 28, 2018.”
The match, which finished 5-0 to Sunderland RCA, was delayed by 15 minutes.
