A hard-hitting campaign has hit Sunderland.
Giant mobile phones can be seen on Market Square which show the final texts motorists sent before being killed whilst using their mobiles.
The ‘Last Text Tour‘ are heading around the North East and started in Newcastle last month – they are also visiting Gateshead, South Tyneside and Northumberland.
A plaque on the back of each of the six phones also gives the names of those who died and what happened in each incident.
It forms part of the Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative’s (NSRI) ‘Road Respect‘ campaign which targets young drivers in the region.
They hope a visual installation such as this makes sure their message hits home and changes people’s actions behind the wheel.
